SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- The resort community of Ute Lake Ranch has received approval from the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission to build a nine-hole golf course on the shores of Ute Lake. Ute Lake Ranch wants to build the golf course as part of a large-scale housing development. The golf course proposal has the support of Quay County area governments who say it will help with economic growth in the region. The agreement between the resort community and the Interstate Stream Commission requires Ute Lake Ranch to monitor water quality conditions and to eliminate any pollution that occurs as a result of golf course operations. Ute Reservoir provides drinking water for several eastern New Mexico communities. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
