TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa has unveiled plans for a $40 million renovation and expansion plan, beginning in June 2007. Centered around a "rustic chic" design, the project incorporates new courtyards, gardens, patios and other features drawing from the desert setting with waterfalls, fire pits, native rock formations and lush desert plantings.
When completed in late 2008, the golf resort, country club and spa will expand to encompass 239 luxury guest rooms and suites, a newly enhanced 15,000-square-foot spa, two championship golf courses, a new 7,500-square-foot ballroom and a variety of exciting new culinary options.
Omni Hotels has partnered with Seaver Franks Architects, based in Tucson; Zebrowksi Design Group, based in Culver City, Calif.; and E-Group, based in Phoenix, Ariz., for the renovation.
The crown jewel of the project is a dramatic arrival experience with sweeping views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. A new main lobby and lounge will welcome guests with spectacular water features, fireplaces and scenic desert landscaping, all set against a backdrop of the nearby mountains and styled in warm Southwestern hues.
Seventy-two new luxury guest rooms will also be added, increasing total guest rooms from 167 to 239, including 28 suites. The guest rooms will offer impressive views of the Sonoran or Catalina golf courses, Santa Catalina Mountains, pool areas or serene courtyards.
As the only Mobil four-star spa in Tucson, the 15,000-square-foot Spa at Omni Tucson National will offer expanded areas for relaxation, treatments and well-being. Additionally, the resort will include the creation of two new dining outlets. From a formal steakhouse to a casual juice bar, guests will be able to choose from a variety of enticing options.
Golfers will enjoy Tucson's top country club with a state-of-the-art clubhouse and renovated men's and women's locker rooms. A new golf shop will also allow for easier access to the championship golf courses.
In January, the resort took the first step in its transformation with the opening of its second 18-hole golf course. Designed by 2006 Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman, the desert-style Sonoran Course continues to heighten the golf experience. Lehman also redesigned two holes on the championship Catalina Course, which has been home to numerous PGA Tour and NCAA events, including the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.
