PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- The Escena Golf Club is open for play, becoming first new public golf course to debut in the City of Palm Springs in 20 years.

The new 18-hole championship Escena Golf Club course, designed by Nicklaus Design, will officially open for play on Nov. 5. Centerpiece to the gated residential community of Escena Palm Springs (set to open early next year), the new course is situated south of Vista Chino, just east of Gene Autry Trail with Ramon Road to the south.

"With scenic desert and mountain views providing a spectacular backdrop and a classic course design that is second to none, the Escena Golf Club offers the very best of the Southern California desert golf experience as well as an opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of this legendary resort destination," said PGA Professional Jeff Sauvage, the club manager of Escena Golf Club.

Developed in partnership between Lennar Communities and The Empire Companies, the par-72 course was designed with wide fairways that accent its 7,173-yard layout and are framed by clusters of towering Mexican fan palms, pepper trees and small native trees. The course rests on 172 acres and offers multiple lakes and streams on nine of its 18 holes.

Playing from the championship tees will give experienced golfers a 7,000-plus-yard test, while forward tees set at just over 6,000 yards will make the course enjoyable for players at all skill levels. In addition, an adjacent mid-century modern-style clubhouse complete with a restaurant and dining room, a large terrace lounge, men's and women's lockers, and golf shop is projected to open in late 2006.

Green fees will range from $45 to $105, depending on the season. On-site course management will be provided by Troon Golf, a leader in upscale golf course management.

Escena Palm Springs artistically captures the mystique of Palm Springs in its heyday, with residences to be designed in the classic Spanish and mid-century modern architecture of historic Palm Springs. The cosmopolitan desert retreat is destined to provide future homeowners with a resort-caliber lifestyle within a serene golf course setting.
