MONTVILLE, N.Y. -- A New York firm has bought 246 acres next to the Mohegan Tribe's reservation to build a hotel, an 18-hole golf course, condominiums, stores and a marina.

The head of Tarragon Corporation says his company is working on the project with the Mohegans and parts of the development could be built on tribal land, according to The Day of New London.

The developer is drafting architectural plans and doing site assessments, and it could be at least another year before the company formally files plans. The company also is considering building affordable housing for casino workers.

In October, the firm paid more than $33 million for the site, much of which fronts the Thames River. More recently, Tarragon paid $100,000 for about two acres that is contiguous to the rest of the company's property.
