PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Springdale Golf Club has begun a series of renovations to the course and improvements to the overall golf facility under the direction of The Roger Rulewich Group, course officials have announced. Springdale is the home golf course for the Princeton University golf team and is available for play by students and alumni.

The renovation includes the newly completed clubhouse, which sits on the land that had been occupied by the old driving range. A new driving range, designed by David Tanner and constructed by the club, is located adjacent to this area.

Rulewich also was contracted to design and build a practice and short-game area. It will include three greens surrounded by 15,000 square feet of fairway; an 8,400-square-foot putting green; a 5,600-square-foot chipping green; and 2,500-square-foot bunker green. These will all be part of the practice facility complex, adjacent to the new clubhouse.

"Bringing the layout and design up to a level that will allow the course to be played with current-day equipment and offer a better overall golf experience," said Rulewich.

The original golf course, founded in 1895 by alumni, faculty and undergraduates, was a nine-hole track that is listed by the U.S. Golf Association as one of the first 100 clubs established in the United States. It was included in GOLF Magazine's 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America."

A new 18-hole course designed by Gerald Lambert in 1915 replaced the original nine. William Flynn redid some of the features in 1928. At present, the golf course is a par 71, measuring 6,380 yards from the longest tees, with a course rating of 70.8 and slope of 128.
