JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- A links-style golf course built on a former landfill and listing some notable names among its members has opened for play.

Liberty National, which offers sweeping views of the nearby Statue of Liberty, Hudson River and Manhattan skyline, charges a $400,000 initiation fee.

Some of course's "founding'' members include former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Billy Getty. Getty, the grandson of the financier J. Paul Getty, attended Wednesday's ribbon cutting ceremony.

The $130 million, 18-hole course is the vision of former Reebok CEO Paul Fireman. The 7,400-yard, par-70 layout was designed by U.S. Open champion Tom Kite and prominent course architect Bob Cupp.
