VICTORIA, British Columbia -- Bear Mountain Resort, a master-planned golf resort community, is opening in May. The resort is the creation of President and CEO Len Barrie, a former National Hockey League player who's turned developer.
Situated on 1,300 acres of mountainside property, the community features the first and only Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course in Canada. A second Nicklaus-designed course is currently under construction and will open in 2008.
Bear Mountain also features the 12,000-square-foot Sante Spa, three world-class restaurants and the state-of-the-art Mountainside Athletic Club, all within minutes of Victoria's seaside harbor.
The community's clubhouse building will be the centerpiece of the resort and home of the Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa. Long-term plans for the project also include The Village, which will offer coffee houses, specialty shops, boutiques, bistros, natural open space, landscaped parks and an outdoor amphitheatre as well as year-round activities, music, art and exhibits.
As the community continues to take shape over the next decade, Bear Mountain Resort will offer approximately 1,112 single-family lots, 1,997 condominiums and 220 townhomes, totaling 3,329 residences, and is projected to have a total build-out value of $2.1 billion. The current real estate available at Bear Mountain includes homesites, townhomes, condominiums and executive fractional ownership ranging in price from $213,000 to $1.5 million.
