CARMEL, Ind. (Sports Network) -- Candace Schepperle fired a 5-under-par 67 Monday and is atop the leaderboard with the first round of the U.S. Women's Amateur at Crooked Stick Golf Club suspended for the day.

There were two weather delays on Monday with the second one coming at 5:49 p.m. ET. Officials eventually halted play for the day at 7:15 p.m.

None of the 78 players that teed off in the afternoon wave completed their opening rounds. The first round will resume Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. ET with the second round starting at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Schepperle is not alone atop the leaderboard as Jennifer Song and Mi Jung Hur are also at minus-5. Both have completed 15 holes of their opening round.

"I really didn't have expectations," said Schepperle, who birdied five of her final nine holes Monday. "I went out there to have fun. I didn't have a goal score or expectations for today. It came out as it did."

Kristen Park, Tiffany Joh, Jennifer Ackerson, Catherine O'Donnell and Shanshan Feng are tied for fourth place at 3-under-par 69. Also at minus-3 are Alison Walshe and Kristie Smith, who have completed eight and seven holes, respectively.

Marci Turner and Michelle Shin are in the clubhouse at 2-under-par 70. They share 11th with six other players.

Defending champion Kimberly Kim stands at 2 over par through 10 holes. She has three bogeys and a birdie to that point in her round. She is tied for 52nd place.

After the second round of stroke play on Tuesday, the top 64 players will move on to the match-play portion of the championship. The 36-hole final is slated for Sunday.
