WHEATON, Ill. (AP) -- Daniel Woltman of Beaver Dam, Wis., shot a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday to lead the weather-delayed second round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship with an even-par 144 total.

Seventy-eight players, half the field, completed their first round of stroke-play qualifying Tuesday morning. Lightning forced second-round play to be suspended with just 26 players having completed the round on the 7,048-yard Cantigny Golf.

Robert Rohanna of Waynesburg, Pa., was second after a second 73 and was two strokes behind Woltman.

The second round was to be completed Wednesday with the low 64 players advancing to match play.

At the conclusion of the first round only 11 players were under par.

Carlos Estanislao Goya, a 19-year-old from Argentina, held the first-round lead with a 4-under 68, one shot over Mark Harrell, a senior at Alabama, and Clayton Rask, a senior at Minnesota.

Lucas Lee, a sophomore at UCLA from Brazil, led a group of four players at 70.

Thirty players shot 80 or higher in the first round including defending champion Casey Watabu of Kapaa, Hawaii.

Watabu had a 10 on the par-5 seventh in his 8-over 80. He had five birdies on his front nine before a double bogey and a bogey preceded the lightning delay.

Watabu was 6 over for the tournament with a 10-foot par putt and five holes left to play.

"It's been a crazy day," he said. "I'm going to give it all I've got and try and birdie as many holes as I can. There's no give-up in me."
