FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP) -- Seven-time USGA champion Carol Semple Thompson has been reappointed as the captain for the 2008 United States Curtis Cup team, the USGA has announced.

The United States posted an 11 1/2 - 6 1/2 victory over Britain and Ireland in the biennial amateur women's competition this past July in Oregon.

"I'm so honored to be selected to captain the team again," said Thompson, of Sewickley, Pa. "Serving as captain of the team that won the Curtis Cup at Bandon Dunes was such a wonderful experience, and I'm really looking forward to bringing the next team to St. Andrews."

The 2008 Curtis Cup will be played on the Old Course, St. Andrews, Scotland, from May 30 to June 1.

Thompson, 57, competed on a record 12 U.S. Curtis Cup teams.

Great Britain and Ireland will be captained by Mary McKenna, who played on a record nine Curtis Cup teams from 1970 to 1986.

The 2008 match will change from a two-day to a three-day format. It will feature three foursomes and three fourball matches on the first two days, and eight singles on the final day, meaning all eight players on each side will compete.

The Curtis Cup was held first in 1932 at Wentworth (England) Golf Club. The United States has a 25-6-3 record, winning the last five matches.
