Nairn Golf Club in northern Scotland will host the 2012 Curtis Cup

The course is the most northerly ever to host the biennial match between the female amateurs from the USA and GBI.

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) -- Nairn Golf Club will host the 2012 Curtis Cup, the biennial match between the top amateur women from the United States and those of Britain and Ireland. The 2012 Curtis Cup will take place June 8-10.

The course, near Inverness in northern Scotland, which celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2012, is where the U.S. men experienced the first of three straight Walker Cup defeats in 1999. The venue is the most northerly ever to host the event.

Next year's Curtis Cup is at St. Andrews in Scotland and the 2010 competition is at the Essex Club in Massachusetts.

The 2012 Curtis Cup will mark the 38th playing of the biennial contest between Great Britain & Ireland and the United States for the simple silver trophy offered up by sisters Margaret and Harriot Curtis.

Along with the 1999 Walker Cup, the links layout at Nairn also has hosted Scottish Amateur Championships, Northern Professional Opens, European Championships and several British and Scottish ladies' tournaments.

The United States currently holds the Curtis Cup, having defeated GBI, 11 ? to 6 ?, I 2006 at Bandon Dunes in Oregon. The United States owns a 25-6-3 overall record in the event.
