CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Former Major League pitcher Rick Rhoden double-bogeyed the final hole to drop into a three-way tie for the lead Thursday after the third round of the Champions Tour's National Qualifying Tournament.

Rhoden, the winner of 50 celebrity golf titles, shot an even-par 72 to match Jack Ferenz (69) and Scott Masingill (70) at 6-under 210 on the TPC Eagle Trace.

After the fourth round Friday, the low 30 players and ties will earn spots into open qualifiers at all co-sponsored events on the 2008 Champions Tour.

Thomas E. Jones (69) and Mike Goodes (69) were 5 under, and Rick Karbowski (71) and Mark Balen (72) were another stroke back.

Ferenz posted his third straight sub-par round in the tournament to move into a share of the lead with Rhoden and Masingill, who were the first-round co-leaders. Ferenz made seven starts on the Champions Tour in 2007 with his best finish a tie for ninth at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in July.

Greg Hickman posted the day's low round, a 6-under-par 66, which was an 11-shot swing from his second-round 5-over-par 77. His round on Thursday included a stretch where he birdied seven of eight holes. His effort moved him up 28 spots from a tie for 44th to a tie for 16th heading into Friday's final round.
