Former champions headline the field in the third PGA Senior Stroke Play

BEAUMONT, Calif. -- The two former champions are among the entries in the third annual Senior Stroke Play Championship, the opening event of the Callaway Golf PGA Western Winter Championships.

Rick Vershure of Armonk, N.Y., the 2004 winner, and defending champion Bob Mann of Columbus, Ohio, are among the 43 entries on the Champions Course at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club.

The tournament for PGA Professionals 50 years and older is scheduled from Sunday through Tuesday with starting times ranging from 8:00 to 10:20 a.m. PT. The competition will be in three age groups: 50-54, 55-59 and 60-over.

The Senior Stroke Play will be followed by the Senior-Junior on Mar. 9-11, and the Stroke Play on Mar. 13-15. The other winners last year were the team of Butch Sheehan and Mike Mitchell of Rancho Mirage, Calif., in the Senior-Junior, and Don Berry of Brooklyn Park, Minn., in the Stroke Play.
