Colorado team of Zaremba and Rudosky leads the Western Sr.-Jr.

Michael Zaremba and Micah Rudosky combined for a 12-under-par 60 Thursday and a four-shot lead after the first day.

BEAUMONT, Calif. -- The Colorado team of Michael Zaremba of Pueblo, and Micah Rudosky of Cortez combined for a 12-under-par 60 Thursday and took the first-round lead in the third annual PGA Western Senior-Junior Championship.

Together, they made six birdies on each nine in the four-ball stroke play event on the Champions Course at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club, eight by Zaremba, the senior, at Nos. 2, 3, 7, 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17, and four by Rudosky, at 4, 6, 9 and 12.

Zaremba and Rudosky take a four-stroke lead into the second round Friday, and the three-day event will conclude on Saturday. They tied for fourth here last year. In January, they were 17th in the PGA Senior-Junior Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Greg Harmon of Mesa, Ariz., and Bob Sowards of Columbus, Ohio, were second at 64. Sowards, the PGA Club Professional Player of the Year for the past three years, won the PGA Stroke Play Championship in January.

The second of three tournaments in the Callaway Golf PGA Western Winter Championships drew 24 teams. Last year's winners, Butch Sheehan and Mike Mitchell of Rancho Mirage, Calif., are not in the field.
