The Buick Scramble, the world's largest amateur golf tournament, will begin July 5 with the first of 104 PGA Sectional Championships to be held across the United States.

DETROIT -- The Buick Scramble, now in its third decade as the world's largest amateur golf tournament, announced Tuesday its PGA Sectional Championship schedule for the 2005 season.
Beginning Tues., July 5, in Florida and concluding the first week of September in Michigan, a total of 103 of the 104 PGA Sectional Championships will take place across the United States in 40 PGA of America Sections. Two teams from each PGA Sectional Championship (one net, one gross) will advance to the Buick Scramble National Championships at Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 13-16.
The Buick Scramble Southwest PGA Sectional Championship was contested on Mon., May 23, with Apache Stronghold Golf Club (net) and Ken McDonald Golf Course (gross) becoming the first two teams to qualify for the Buick Scramble National Championships. Tiger Woods returns as the Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman for a fourth season in 2005. Woods, 29, is scheduled to appear at the Buick Scramble National Championships, where he will present the winning trophies to the Buick Scramble National Champions at the awards ceremony at Grande Lakes Orlando on Oct. 16.

Four-person amateur teams will compete in more than 1500 Buick Scramble Local Championships through mid-August. Winning teams advance with their respective PGA Professional to compete as five-somes to one of the 104 Buick Scramble PGA Sectional Championships, with the hopes of advancing to the National Championships.
The Buick Scramble, with more than 75,000 participants annually, is sanctioned by The PGA of America.
