8 days to go!

Darrell Kestner of Glen Cove, N.Y., made a remarkable comeback in the final round and parred the first playoff hole to become a National Champion in 1982, capturing the then-titled Foot-Joy PGA Assistant Professional Championship at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Mass.

Kestner trailed Greg Farrow of Pitman, N.J., by seven strokes entering the final round, then went on to post a 2-under-par 68 to join Canada's Jean Louis Lamarre in the playoff. Kestner was at his best again in 1987, winning a second Foot-Joy PGA Assistant Professional Championship.

The 31st edition of the TaylorMade-adidas Golf PGA Assistant Professional Championship, Oct. 25-28, will mark its 12th consecutive visit to The PGA Golf Club. The 120-member field features the Assistant Professional Champion from each of the 41 PGA Sections, Section qualifiers, the Defending Champion and a representative from The PGA of Great Britain and the Canadian PGA.

The winner of the TaylorMade-adidas Golf PGA Assistant Professional Championship will collect $9,000 of the $100,000 purse and the low apprentice finisher will receive an invitation to participate in the 2008 Australian PGA National Futures Championship.

The Champion, if eligible, will earn a berth in the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship, June 19-22, at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
