SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Australian golf legend Greg Norman has paid to ensure compatriot Kel Nagle is personally inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Nagle, 87, was elected to the Hall of Fame this year but is not well enough to travel from Australia to Florida for next month's induction ceremony. Norman, who was Thursday inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, will pay for Golf Hall of Fame Chief Executive Jack Peter to travel to Sydney to perform Nagle's induction on Dec. 15. "I am privileged to help make this evening special for Kel, and it is unfortunate that he cannot make it to the ceremony in Florida next month," Norman said. "Kel plays an important role in the history of the sport, especially as it relates to the progress of golf in Australia," Peter said. Nagle was 39 when he beat Arnold Palmer to win the 1960 Centenary British Open at St. Andrews. He was runner-up to Palmer in 1962 and finished in the top five at the Open six times between 1960 and 1966. He finished second to Gary Player in the 1965 U.S. Open and twice won the World Cup with fellow Australian Peter Thomson.
