Putter manufacturer STX Golf has added three new models to its popular Sync line and what company officials call ?a complete overhaul? of the Greeny family. All the new and modified models were developed by veteran designer Bob Renegar, and all utilize the Face Insert Technology (F.I.T.) that STX has pioneered.

The three new Sync models bring the total number of Sync putters to eight for 2003. The new Sync 7, Sync 8 and Sync 9 complement the existing Sync Tour, Sync Tour Mallet, Sync 3, Sync 9740 and 9750 products. The new putter line, according to STX officials, offers insert technology with both classic and contemporary head shapes.

The new Sync 7 (suggested retail price $155) features a stainless steel head with exceptional heel-toe weighting for greater control and putting accuracy officials said. A no-hosel, single-bend shaft design, they added, yields a perfect face balance with a slight offset to produce a lower center of gravity. The Sync 7 is equipped with a 19-degree lie angle and three degrees loft. Shaft lengths will vary from 32 to 36 inches.

The Sync 8 (SRP $165) has a uniquely shaped stainless steel head developed specifically for both belly and long-handle shaft lengths, officials said. The heel-toe weighting fosters a truer roll as the no-hosel, straight and centered-shaft balances the face for putting exactness.

Belly lengths are 41, 43, and 45 inches with two degrees of loft and 15-degree lie angle. Long-handled lengths are 48, 50, and 52 inches with two degrees of loft and 11-degree lie angle.

The Sync 9 (SRP $165), according to STX officials, is a low-profile mallet-style putter designed with a scoop-like flange engraved with a prominent alignment aid. A no-hosel center shaft is available in belly lengths of 41, 43, and 45 inches with a two-degree loft and 15-degree lie angle. Long-handled lengths are 48, 50, and 52 inches with a two-degree loft and 11-degree lie angle.

In 2003, all Sync putters, including the three new models, will be available with two high-performance inserts. STX?s traditional, black insert (code name XH1.70) is extremely soft, and delivers a high coefficient of friction and resilience rate plus increased dwell time, officials said. The new insert material, dubbed XP4.60, is brick red and provides a slightly firmer feel with lowered coefficient of friction and resiliency rates.

New alignment aids, new sole curvatures, new proprietary Winn grip design, new shafts and new rich finishes, redefine the Greeny Series, which STX officials now call the Greeny Plus Series. These slight modifications appear minor but dramatically improve putting consistency, they said. All five models (Greeny Plus I, II, V, VII and VIII) are available in traditional lengths (32-36 inches) and carry a suggested retail price of $145.
