Shaft manufacturer UST, whose IROD Hybrid shaft is widely used on the PGA Tour, is introducing an IROD Driver shaft series that company officials say generates superior driver distance yet retains 3-wood control.

The IROD Driver shaft, according to UST, features Dual Action Technology, a seamless integration of a visible "Interlinked Carbon" fiber midsection with a low-torque, active tip.

UST said its proprietary tip technology has been proven to increase ball speed and promote higher launch conditions for added carry and overall distance. Like the tournament-winning IROD Hybrid, the company said, the high-modulus material woven into the midsection of the IROD Driver provides hoop strength and stiffness that significantly reduces torque for greater feel, control and confidence.

The IROD Driver (suggested retail price $85) is a 65-gram shaft with 2.6 degrees of torque and is available in A-, R-, S- and X-flexes.
