To combat what it said is are "ever-growing incidences" of golf equipment theft, bag manufacturer Burton Golf is introducing a new golf club and bag theft prevention system called Club-Lok. Club-Lok (suggested retail price $189) is a complete, state-of-the-art golf club and bag theft deterrent that operates with a lever-based locking system that requires only seconds to simultaneously lock all 14 clubs, company officials said. A rugged, retractable steel cable, according to Burton, allows the bag to be secured to bag-drop racks, golf carts and automobile trunks and hatches. A keyless combination lock on the bag's upper front side anchors the entire system. In addition to protecting up to 14 clubs and the entire bag from theft, Burton said Club-Lok's graphite-friendly club organizing system guards against scratches and damage that occur with everyday use and transportation. Recent surveys show that seven of 10 golfers either have had their clubs stolen or know of someone who has experienced club theft, said Burton's Terry Andre. Yet, industry executives estimate that less than one percent of golf bags employ a locking device. "The problem-solution reaction has not prevailed itself yet upon the industry or the golfing public," Andre said. "We intend to change that through education and offering a product that addresses the issue." Copyright (c)2004 PGA.com. All rights reserved.
