MacGregor Golf is joining the hybrid club market with the introduction of its V-FOIL Go Long Driving Iron, which the company said delivers the power and high launch angle of a fairway wood with the control and accuracy of easy-to-hit forged irons. Available in lofts of 16 and 19 degrees, the new V-FOIL Go Long Driving Iron carries a suggested retail price of $139.99 (steel) and $159.99 (graphite). Concentrated mass and a hot face, according to MacGregor, combine for the increased distance of a fairway wood while the perimeter weighted V-FOIL cavity back delivers the balance, control and accuracy of a forged iron. The massive weight low and deep and high moment of inertia, the company said, provides an easy high launch even from difficult lies, and the curved, contoured sole reduces drag when hitting from the rough.
