La Jolla Club Golf Company has introduced a new line of its popular Lady Velvet irons and woods, company officials have announced. They will begin shipping Mar. 1.
"With the addition of the Lady Velvet line, we now offer a complete selection of golf clubs for women of all playing abilities, from beginners to the more advanced," said La Jolla Club President Paul Herber. "These new woods and irons are geared toward the mid- to low-handicap golfer, while our line of Lady Accent clubs is geared toward the mid- to high-handicap golfer."
The Lady Velvet Irons feature a progressive offset, Herber said, to promote a higher launch angle and to add control and distance to all shots. The perimeter-weighted cavity back design of the clubhead puts as much weight as possible below the ball and to the farthest perimeter of the iron for maximum forgiveness on all shots.
Traditional-shaped Lady Velvet Woods, according to Herber, provide a lower center of gravity, which leads to higher, straighter and longer shots.
The Lady Velvet woods and irons feature Triple Notch Velvet Shafts with Velvet Series Winn Grips. Triple Notch shafts, Herber said, have a progressive low kick that addresses the different shot requirements of woods, utility woods and irons. By casting three "power notches" to stiffen the upper half of the shaft, Herber said his company has dramatically lowered the kick point.
Triple Notch's lower kick point, he said, will significantly improve the club's launch angle and increase clubhead speed. Improved launch angles promote higher ball flight, and increased clubhead speeds generate more distance.
Lady Velvet clubs are available in sets including a 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-wood and 5-iron through 9-iron, pitching wedge and sand wedge. The irons and woods are offered in right- and left-handed models in three different sizes: Petite, Standard and Tall.
The suggested retail price for the complete set of four woods and seven irons is $499. A titanium driver is an optional upgrade for $99. A matching Lady Velvet staff bag is also available for $129.
