ORLANDO -- TaylorMade-adidas Golf is introducing its third model of RAC (relative amplitude coefficient) irons here at the PGA Merchandise Show.
Engineered for skilled players, TMaG officials said, the RAC MB iron is a coin-forged, muscleback blade that incorporates the company's unique RAC technology, by which TaylorMade engineers control and tune the feel of each club through the shape and location of "Feel Pockets'' positioned in the back of the clubhead.
The RAC technology produces a soft-yet-solid feel at impact unmatched by any other iron, company officials said.
The iron's muscleback blade design, combined with RAC technology, TMaG said, delivers power through the hitting area and a new level of pure feel and feedback while the narrow sole that performs from all lie conditions.
The RAC MB iron also feature a traditional, smaller head-size and profile; polished, nickel-chrome-plated finish; and minimal offset, progressive from long-irons to wedge.
Additionally, TMaG said RAC MB benefits from its coin-forged method of production, a forging process wherein, after traditional double-striking, the forged steel is slowly compressed between two dies, which precisely forms the steel into the shape of a clubhead. The advantage of coin forging, the company said, is that the resulting clubhead is both exceedingly beautiful and extremely consistent in detail.
RAC MB irons are offered in 1-PW (right-handed only), with five available shaft flexes in Flighted Rifle steel shafts. Suggested retail price is $1,120.
"The RAC MB provides the playing characteristics necessary to create different types of shots," said Sean Toulon, vice president of global product and brand creation.
