The GolfWorks is expanding its line of MXU Utility Woods in 2005 to include a 20-degree model the company said retains a higher trajectory than most fairway woods, as well as new left-handed models in 24- and 28-degree options. "The MXU line has been a real success story for club makers looking to fit their customers with extremely playable clubs, and the new 20-degree model and new left-handed models will greatly increase their fitting options," said GolfWorks co-Chief Executive Officer Mark McCormick. Using long-iron-length shafts, McCormick said, MXU Utility Woods feature an offset, closed face that keeps the club face square at impact for straighter shots and a higher 1.45-inch-tall face that reduces a player's tendency to pop the ball up when hitting from fluffy lies. A thick, heavy sole of 17-4 stainless steel, according to McCormick, lower the head's center of gravity and helps pick up the ball up, sending it on an arcing trajectory. The rear of the sole features soft, rounded edges to minimize snagging on turf or digging into the sand from fairway bunkers. McCormick said the 24-degree model is designed to replace 3- or 4-irons, is finished to a length of 39 inches to 39.5 inches, and is now available in left-handed options. The 28-degree model is designed for mid-length shots and is also now available in left-handed options. Copyright (c)2004 PGA.com. All rights reserved.
