Gimme a "V.'' That's what Taylor Made-adidas Golf officials want golfers to say about their new V Steel fairway woods.

The V Steel is TaylorMade's second fairway wood introduction in the past few months, joining the R580 Ti fairway woods, which the company unveiled in October.

The V Steel fairway woods, according to TMaG officials, incorporate a distinctive V-shaped sole design engineered to deliver power, playability and accuracy. The sole is designed to minimize turf-resistance at impact, they said, allowing the clubhead to glide squarely through the impact zone without slowing or twisting, resulting in longer, straighter shots.

The fairway woods also use the same ''pull-face'' method of construction used in TaylorMade's R500 Series of drivers. Pull-face construction, according to TMaG, entails creating the clubhead and clubface separately, allowing TaylorMade to engineer a high-strength, 455-steel clubface with high COR for maximum yardage.

In addition, the V Steel fairway woods feature a hosel cartridge that company officials said allowed their engineers to precisely position the high-density polymeric material used to tune swingweight, equaling the improved feel.

"TaylorMade has never made a more versatile fairway wood than the V Steel," said Sean Toulon, vice president of global product and brand creation for TMaG. "The V-shaped sole makes the V Steel playable and powerful from just about any lie."

The V Steel is available in 2-wood (13 degrees), 3-wood (15 degrees), 4-wood (16.5 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees), 7-wood (21 degrees) and 9-wood (24 degrees). Left-handed models include 3-wood, 5-wood and 7-wood. Suggested retail price is $240 (steel) and $300 (graphite).
