Get a Grip

When talking about the golf grip, most players think of what type they use -- overlap, interlock or 10-finger. The problem is, many players place too much importance on the type of grip ... and ignore the kind.

The kind of grip a player uses involves the posture of the hands and the pressure on the club. Poor golf swings and their resulting poor shots are caused by "gripping" the club instead of "holding" the club.

Try this experiment: Ask someone to "grip" your forearm and pay particular attention to the amount of pressure applied. Then ask the same person to "hold" your forearm. Eight out of 10 times the pressure will be lighter.

Golf is fun but frustrating game. Don't continue to press for good shots -- this usually leads to tension. Take a deep breath, relax your hands and arms and let it happen instead of trying to make it happen.
