To maximize power, your weight has to be moving toward the target on the downswing. But this move is largely set up on the backswing by a weight shift into your rear leg, since your weight naturally shifts the opposite way when the swing reverses direction at the top. If you shift away from the target going back, you'll shift toward it coming down.
Here's a practice drill to help you feel the proper "loading" onto your rear foot during the backswing. Take your normal set-up with a driver, then turn your head so you're looking directly away from the target. Looking away promotes a shift away from the target when you put the club in motion. Make your normal backswing, and feel your upper body coil over your rear leg as your weight shifts to your rear instep. With your weight loaded by the time you reach the top, you're in position to shift back toward the target and make an aggressive move through the ball.
Work on this drill on the practice tee while actually hitting balls (return your eyes to the ball in the downswing), or make your practice swings this way on the course. Either way, it should help you find more power at impact.
