Developing into a better player means trusting yourself and your game mechanics. Your on-course plan should include target visualization. Save game mechanic thoughts for the practice area. The great players trust what they have at the moment and rely on their instinct to swing the club. In other words, they react rather than act.
The next time you play, stand behind your ball and focus like a hungry tiger on the target. Become so mentally engaged with what you are trying to accomplish that you leave no room for swing thoughts. Approach the ball very determined and swing the club as though it means that particular shot is to win the U.S. Open.
I think the results of this approach will pleasantly surprise you. Good Luck!
