Moving to the Rescue

Like the r7 Quad driver, the Rescue dual and Rescue dual TP hybrids from TaylorMade can be adjusted to produce a draw bias, a fade bias or a neutral bias by installing weight cartridges toward the toe or heel of the club head.

TaylorMade-adidas Golf is taking the moveable weight technology it introduced in its r7 Quad driver last year to its popular Rescue line of clubs with the introduction of the Rescue dual and Rescue dual TP hybrids.

Engineered for skilled players, TMaG said, the Rescue dual TP features two TaylorMade Launch Control (TLC) ports positioned low in the back of the club head, near the heel and toe.

Installing TLC cartridges of differing weights in the ports, according to the company, allows the player to move the club head's CG (center of gravity) toward the toe or the heel to promote varying degrees of draw bias and fade bias, as well as to promote a neutral, or straight, ball flight.

Likewise, TMaG said, players can change the Rescue dual TP's swingweight, by adjusting the combined weight of the TLC cartridges installed in the ports.

The Rescue dual TP shares the shape of the original Rescue Mid TP, as well as its steel, Pull-Face construction. TMaG said its engineers were able to improve the Rescue dual TP's internal weighting to the point where it delivers up to 24 percent higher moment of inertia (depending on heel vs. toe weighting) than the Rescue Mid TP at standard swingweight.

If the club's swingweight is raised above normal or lowered below normal via the combined weight of the TLC cartridges in the ports, TMaG said the MOI will rise slightly or drop slightly.

The Rescue dual TP comes with a two-gram TLC cartridge, two eight-gram TLC cartridges and a 14-gram TLC cartridge, TMaG said, to promote varying degrees of draws and fades as well as a neutral trajectory. The TLC Wrench needed to install and remove TLC cartridges is sold separately.

The Rescue dual TP, available in lofts of 14, 16, 19 and 21 degrees, begins shipping this month with a suggested retail price of $375 (graphite) and $325 (steel).

The Rescue dual, meanwhile, features a 14-gram TLC cartridge and a two-gram TLC cartridge. Because the majority of golfers hit the ball from left to right, TMaG said, the Rescue dual is engineered with added fixed weight near the heel, which pulls the CG back and toward the shaft to promote the kind of club face rotation during the forward swing that produces a slight draw.

For players who wish to counteract the Rescue dual's inherent tendency to produce a draw, the company said the 14-gram TLC cartridge should be installed in the toe port and the two-gram TLC cartridge should be installed in the heel port. The added weight in the toe, according to TMaG, slows the rotation of the clubface, promoting a neutral, or straight trajectory.

Conversely, TMaG said players can increase the Rescue dual's draw bias by adding more weight to the heel by installing the 14-gram TLC cartridge in the heel port and the two-gram TLC cartridge in the toe port.

The Rescue dual, TMaG said, also incorporates a new, V-shaped sole design that makes the club head more stable and easy to aim at address. The Rescue dual, available in lofts of 16, 19, 22 and 25 degrees, begins shipping this month with a suggested retail price of $275 (graphite) and $235 (steel).
