Sun Mountain wants its new golf bag to stand up for itself, literally. The MPB (multi-purpose bag) combines the best features of a cart bag with a stand bag to get a golf bag that rides well and can stand up on its own, company officials said.

The MPB, according to Sun Mountain, is the perfect bag for the golfer who predominately rides in a cart, occasionally walks or uses a caddie, and enjoys the convenience of a stand bag at the practice range. The MPB is available in black, black/silver, black/red, black/orange, and black/cobalt with a full-suggested retail price of $175.

The MPB incorporates Sun Mountain's most popular cart bag features, including the individual club-dividing 14-way top, an external putter well and eight pockets, along with an insulated beverage pouch. Additionally, the company said the MPB features high-tensile aluminum legs that retract into zippered compartments for storage during cart use or travel, plus Sun Mountain's Dual X-Strap.

The MPB's 14-way divided top, according to Sun Mountain, offers individual, full-length club dividers with graphite shaft protection. The legs on the MPB are lightweight, top-mounted, high-tensile aluminum legs with the company's patented roller-bottom leg mechanism that enables a wide, secure stance that retracts tight to the bag.

Sun Mountain said the Dual X-Strap is easy to get on and off and functions equally well as a single strap for short walks. The MPB includes lift assist handles at top and bottom of the bag for ease in lifting into a car trunk. In addition to zippered compartments for the bag's legs, the MPB features a neoprene hood that protects the top of the stand mechanism while the bag is on a cart.
