Nike Golf is following the launch of its SasQuatch (SQ) Driver with the debut of its SasQuatch Fairway Metals. These new SQ Fairway Metals, according to the company, feature the same SasQuatch geometry as the driver, as well as the yellow tracks of the visually distinctive head design and yellow sole design. The SQ Fairway Metals incorporate their new geometry with PowerBow technology that makes it easier for golfers to hit longer and straighter shots, Nike Golf officials said. The new SasQuatch geometry, Nike Golf said, moves the center of gravity (CG) lower and farther back than in the traditional fairway metal. The CG location, according to the company, is lower than the equator of the golf ball, making it easier to hit the ball in the air for distance and accuracy. To lower the CG, Nike Golf said, the SQ Fairway Metals feature a shallower face and head profile that enable golfers to produce a higher launch, create lower spin and generate maximum distance. Nike Golf said its engineers have saved 11 grams of weight thanks to the thin, strong, forgiveness-enhancing cold-rolled Custom 455 stainless steel used in the club face to enhance perimeter weighting and increase the Moment of Inertia, which helps resist club head twisting on impact. The SQ Fairway Metals will be available beginning Nov. 1 and carry a suggested retail price of $215 (steel) and $239 (graphite). Copyright 2005 PGA.com. All rights reserved.
