TaylorMade-adidas Golf has introduced an updated version of its Miscela line of golf clubs specially engineered to meet the needs of women golfers. The 10-club set consists of a driver, stainless steel 3-wood, three hybrids (4, 5 and 6) and five irons (7-, 8-, 9-, pitching wedge and sand wedge).

The new Miscela set features a 380cc titanium driver that is larger than the original's smaller stainless steel model. The new driver features a larger footprint at address and incorporates a lower center of gravity that makes it easier to launch the ball on a higher and longer flight.

The Miscela hybrids, which take the place of the long and middle irons, feature a broad smooth sole and exceptionally low center of gravity and high moment of inertia (MOI), making them easier to launch the ball into the air. And the irons are engineered with a shallower clubface and lower profile, giving them an inherently low CG position that makes it easier to hit the ball higher and longer.

"TaylorMade hasn't lost sight of the fact that a common problem among women golfers is that they hit many of their clubs approximately the same distance," said Gary Gallagher, manager of irons, wedges and putters. "Like our original Miscela, the new Miscela is also engineered to deliver significantly different distances from one club to the next."

Likewise, every new Miscela club is designed to deliver a high launch angle and high spin rate. The higher launch angle promotes a higher trajectory, while the higher spin rate helps keep the ball in the air longer. The result is longer carry for longer distance, said officials, plus the advantage of softer landings -- a benefit for women tired of hitting low, hot approaches that skip across the green.

All clubs in the new Miscela set are equipped with ultralight, low-kick graphite shafts that promote added swing speed, a powerful release through impact and a higher launch angle -- all of which help produce increased yardage.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $700 for the 7-club set and $1,200 for the 10-club set.
