Cleveland Golf has added what it calls Thin Crown Technology to its Launcher 460 driver. By adding Thin Crown Technology to the driver, the company said its designers were able to move 15 percent of the weight from the top of the crown to more beneficial areas around the perimeter of the club head. This redistribution of weight, according to Cleveland, gives the driver a lower center of gravity and higher launch angle for longer drives. The improved '06 Launcher Ti460 driver maintains the original driver's hot, plasma-welded, SP700 beta titanium face, company officials said, so players will still benefit from a big sweet spot and a high moment of inertia, or resistance to twisting, for maximum forgiveness and distance even when the driver is struck off-center. The accompanying Launcher steel fairway woods also have been updated to feature Thin Crown Technology as well as a Carpenter Custom 455 steel face plate. The new face plate, the company said, is robotically welded to increase the size of the fairway woods' sweet spot thereby making them hotter and more forgiving on off-center hits. The '06 Launcher 460 driver and fairway woods will begin shipping Oct. 3 and maintain the $390 suggested retail price of the original Launcher. The Launcher fairway woods will carry a SRP of $249 each. Copyright 2005 PGA.com. All rights reserved.
