The new Morph game-improvement irons from Tommy Armour Golf are the first to combine three distinct head designs (two-piece deep-cavity, mid-cavity and blade) that transition from long irons to short irons, company officials said. The irons are complemented by three types of proprietary Rifle Flighted shafts with trajectory characteristics tailored to each head type. The set (suggested retail price $599.99 for 3-PW) also features a center of gravity at the face that is constant throughout the set and placed below the equator of the ball to make it easier to hit the ball higher with less effort. The result, said Kirk Peglow, vice president and general manager of Tommy Armour Golf, is a set of game-improving clubs that allows golfers of all skill levels to achieve higher, straighter shots with less effort. The set's long irons, Peglow said, feature a deep-cavity and two-piece hollow back construction with a low, deep center of gravity. They are matched with Rifle Flighted High Launch steel shafts to promote a higher launch with tighter shot dispersion. The set transitions, or "morphs," to a more conventional mid-cavity head design in the mid-irons. Peglow said their Rifle Flighted Mid-Launch shafts promote more controlled ball flight. The set "morphs" again into a blade design in the short irons to promote an added level of finesse and feel around the greens. The Morph short irons, according to Peglow, feature Rifle Tour Launch shafts to help prevent "ballooning" shots and enhance spin characteristics. Copyright 2005 PGA.com. All rights reserved.
